I was recently sent the new Judge BioChef Kitchen Utensil Range to try out. It’s made from a revolutionary combination of corn-based bioplastic, nylon and a smidge of silicone. The BioChef range includes slotted turner, turner, spaghetti fork, slotted spoon, ladle and serving spoon; all the kitchen essentials. The key points of note are as follows:
- Eco friendly Kitchenware – 100% biodegradable handle, renewable, sustainable & recyclable.
- Heat resistant heads up to 210°
- Silicone soft grip insert, for comfort with wet or dry hands
- Suitable for Non-Stick pans
- Easy to Clean – Dishwasher safe
My first impression of the range was that it is well designed and I love its green credentials. It is vital for the longevity of your non-stick pans to use plastic and not metal utensils. I cringe every time I see a chef on TV using metal in a non-stick pan. The spoons, turners and ladle are all slightly smaller than I have been used to but I actually found this a welcome change. When I was turning some new potatoes that I was frying, the job was made so much easier with the Judge BioChef turner as it has a really good sharp angle on the edge. Sometimes I end up just pushing a potato around for ages before actually managing to get some leverage to it. I also found the ladle a really good size when I was transfering a pie filling from my pan to a pie dish the other day!
I have dish washed my utensils and they have all come out looking the same way as they went in. I only noticed the other day that they should be washed on the top rack so will do this in future! So if you care about looking after your non-stick pans then I think this range of BioChef utensils from Judge are superb.
The Judge BioChef utensils retail for around £4.20 each.
Next I received a Judge Natural Ceramic Frying Pan to try out. Here’s what Judge say about them:
“Judge Natural frying pans are lined with an eco friendly matt grey ceramic coating (Whitford’s acclaimed Fusion). Stylishly designed, with thick thermic bases making them suitable for all hob types, with stay cool textured phenolic handles, the Judge Natural frying pan range delivers environmentally whilst being effortlessly functional too. Judge Naturals are free from all chemicals associated with traditional non-stick cookware, i.e. its PTFE- and PFOA-free and is able to withstand tremendous heat – up to 280°C – without the risk of blistering or cracking.”
My first impression of this pan was that it wasn’t the prettiest pan I’d ever seen but once I started using it I was blown away by it. The thick thermic base really transmits the heat extremely quickly and evenly. It’s easy to clean with a quick wash in soapy water with a sponge and it has become my favourite pan to use for everything from omelettes to pancakes.
The 26cm Judge Natural frying pan I received has an rrp of £60.
