On recent trip to Tesco I noticed a new kid on the block in the sauce aisle, Stokes, and decided I needed to find out more. From their web site I found out that Essfoods produce an award winning range of quality mayonnaises, sauces, mustards, relishes, chutneys, dressings, jams and marmalades, within the Stokes and Suffolk Mud brands.
Founded in 2004 (Essfoods) and manned by 22 staff, their products are hand produced in small batches in a small, yet highly productive factory unit in the heart of rural Suffolk. Quality and taste are achieved by using only the finest ingredients and as animal welfare is high on their agenda they only use Freedom Food free range egg in their mayonnaise and mayonnaise based products. Their aim is always to produce the best tasting preserved sauce you can buy in a jar. Stokes sauces are available from farm shops, deli’s and food stores as well as their own web site. Stokes sauces retail from about £2.75 to £3.98.
With this in mind I just had to get in touch with Stokes and asked if they would let me sample their products. Well I received a lovely hamper of products which I am slowly sampling and cooking with. Before I post a recipe and review, I thought I should share my good fortune by giving you the opportunity to win your own hamper. Yes Stokes have kindly agreed to send a hamper to one of my readers containing the following products:
Lemon Curd
Bloody Mary Ketchup
Red Onion Marmalade
Blushed Tomato Mayonnaise
Chilli Yellow Pepper Jelly
French Dressing
BBQ Sauce
When my grandparents were still alive I would always put a hamper of lovely products together for them for Christmas. It’s always nice to have something a little bit different and special when it comes to food. So if you’re doing the same this Christmas for a loved one, keep an eye out for Stokes as I’m sure they won’t disappoint!
