5-a-Day Fruit Smoothie is packed full of blueberries, apple, banana, kiwi fruit and lime which are blended with coconut water. You‘ll enjoy the refreshing burst of flavour and nutrients from this smoothie!
Today I’m bringing you a 5-a-Day Fruit Smoothie which came about after a great start to the day!
I woke up extra early this morning (probably due to the lighter mornings) put my latest #flowertheday shot onto Instagram and eventually the radio alarm came on.
We listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 every morning, it’s always uplifting, cheery, and a great way to start the day.
So there I was listening from under the covers whilst checking all my social media on my phone, when a song I hadn’t heard for decades started to play.
It was 68 Guns by The Alarm which I really liked back in the 80’s and I was lucky enough to see them support Queen at Wembley Stadium in my youth.
Hence I felt compelled to tell Radio 2 this via Twitter and mentioned that I’d even had a tasseled suede jacket (similar to the one the lead singer wore in their video, only mine was black).
So blow me down, within a few minutes (and after the next song “Jet”) suddenly the words from my tweet were being repeated back to me.
At this point, I jumped out of bed to tell my kids and hubby about this surprise happening!
Anyway, in the words of the sadly late Ronnie Corbett, I digress!
So with an extra spring in my step this morning and the sun streaming in through the windows I decided I wanted to make a nice healthy smoothie for breakfast.
I’m not really into making smoothies as I don’t have the best equipment with which to make them.
So after discovering that I’d broken my Braun Multipractic blender attachment (after attempting to make peanut butter in it), I decanted my smoothie to my soup maker/blender.
After a bit of stopping and shaking, I eventually got a nice smooth blend.
I knew I had some Kiwi fruits that I’d bought for 3p recently, I also had a glut of cheap bananas, a lime that was on its last legs, some neglected frozen blueberries, and lots of apples. These therefore formed the base of my smoothie as well as a little coconut water I happened to have in the fridge.
If I’d had one of these super duper high-speed blenders then I could have left the skins on my apples but I played safe and peeled mine! The smoothie was totally delicious with all the flavours complimenting each other wonderfully, a great way to get some of your 5-a-day.
As soon as my daughter came in from school she also wanted a glass so I made another batch which she drank with much enthusiasm, my son also had a glass but exclaimed that he didn’t like smoothies and after drinking most of it he still wasn’t convinced (you can’t win them all)!
This 5-a-Day Fruit Smoothie is packed full of vitamins (particularly Vitamin C), minerals, and roughage but due to the high acidity content, it’s not something you would want to drink every day for the sake of your teeth as fruit acid can be quite damaging.
Using a paper straw is a good way to help protect your teeth from the acid.

You are quite right that fruity smoothies are for treats only. I do like the lime juice – it does cut through all that sweetness.
Camilla
Yes and I should probably have added that you shouldn’t brush your teeth for at least half an hour after eating or drinking acidic fruit.

One of the things in this life that I miss, a good smoothy. Sadly I have issues with too many raw fruits and I can manage banana and raspberries without any sort of reaction.
Well done on getting RT’d
