If that’s the way you like it then great. Not something I’ve ever seen in Denmark and wouldn’t imagine any of my relatives using a German ingredient in their aeblekage although some did use breadcrumbs toasted in a frying pan. My mor always added grated chocolate to the cream and it’s a tradition I carry on. You can make a recipe to your own liking, there are no rules once you’re in your kitchen. Hi Carla, you should never open the oven door when baking meringue, the rush of cold air will have been the cause of this. I’m also confused as to your comment about being on a baking tray, did you try to make meringue without the apple. This meringue is a soft pillowy topping for my Vegan Apple Meringue recipe and not a stand alone meringue recipe.

I tried the vegan meringue recently and all seemed to go well until I checked it in the oven part way through cooking. It was just a mushy mess on the baking tray. What went wrong?
