I really wasn’t sure about blogging this as perhaps everyone knows how to make coleslaw. So maybe this post is more about reminding you how easy and cheap it is to make and far tastier than the stuff you can buy in the supermarket. There seem to be two types available, the one where the cabbage and carrot are cut into tiny pieces in a vinegary mayonnaise or the luxury type which is more natural but swimming in mayonnaise. Did you know that raw white cabbage is a very good source of vitamin C and contains as much as lemon juice?
My daughter loves this coleslaw so much that she would happily just have coleslaw sandwiches in her lunch box! I tend to make up about half a small white cabbage worth of coleslaw with a carrot and a medium red onion at a time as it is best eaten within 2 days.
I reckon for about 60p you can make a medium sized serving bowl of coleslaw which if you bought in the shops would cost you a few pounds as this is luxury style, not cheap and nasty! (The picture above is just half of the coleslaw that I made using 1/3 of a medium cabbage). I am entering this dish into Credit Crunch Munch which is a joint venture with Helen at Fuss Free Flavours who is hosting this month.
This is so easy, you need never buy coleslaw!
Just put all the shredded vegetables into a bowl and gradually mix in mayonnaise to coat.Enjoy in your favourite sandwich or wrap – I love turkey and ham (home cooked of course)!

I love coleslaw and I find it much easier to find dairy free mayo and make it than to find dairy free coleslaw.

I love coleslaw but have never attempted to make it myself
Camilla
Oh Kirsty, you have to make your own it’s so good and far better than anything you can buy:-)

Never really thought about making my own coleslaw before. I wonder if it works out cheaper to make your own! Great recipe though.
Camilla

I have just found your web site while looking for a demonstration of a Tefal Actifry. Must say your demo of frying chips is the nearest I have got. It has now given me the confidence to have a go. Sadly I have been left behind by technology as I am well over seventy years of age so anything that will give me a bit of an edge is helpful. I am now looking at the rest of your site to see what else I can pick up. Just looking at coleslaw which I really enjoy. Keep up the good work!
Camilla
Aah, thank you so much for your lovely feedback:-) I have lots of yummy recipes and I try to make them all as simple as possible so I’m sure you’ll find some useful recipes:-)

I like to make mine with red cabbage, which makes a pretty pink coleslaw.
Camilla
Good idea:-)

ASDA’s creamy is the best shop bought one I’ve had, but still not as nice as your own!
