Had frozen leftover brisket my husband had smoked. Usually make chili but I just made chili 2 days ago. Left work still not knowing what I was going to do with the brisket. Found this recipe on my way home. I’m so glad I tried it. Brisket has a tendency to be dry when reheated, this was so tender and juicy from the tomatoes and beans. This one is a keeper for sure.

The gravy powder and flour absorb the moisture from the tomatoes and beans and thicken the sauce so if you add just gravy I think the pie would be too wet. You could experiment but as it’s not something I’ve done I can’t give any solid guidance.

Tasty and comforting – my only tweak would be to fry the onions first as they were a bit raw tasting (I may not have chopped them finely enough though). Thanks for the recipe!

Hi Rob, all my oven temps are for standard ovens (I do have a fan oven but I think it was made on a Friday so it’s never behaved like a fan oven, so if I reduced the temp like they said I should, everything was uncooked).

Great recipe and very easy to follow, except for the oven temperature. Is the 190 for ordinary (do they still exist?) ovens or for fan ovens.

Lovely way to use up roast beef! My beef chunks were in the freezer, so I fried the onions and mushrooms first, and heated up the beef with the tomatoes and baked beans first before putting them in the casserole. I didn’t have any potato, so i topped it with sliced butternut – it was delicious!
