Tracy, I’ve never made ice cream without an ice cream maker but I imagine the trick is to stir up the ice cream quite often during the freezing process to break up the ice crystals as they form. otherwise you will end up with an icy block.

Any help would be appreciated. 😀

You could always do it the old fashioned way of churning it up as it freezes, just a bit more bother. Or find a cheap one, mine’s just a very basic one where the bowl sits in the freezer and a motor clips on top. Was reduced to a tenner in Aldi a couple of years ago.
