Hi Wendy, I used a gin called Star of Bombay as that’s what I happened to have a sample of. I’m not a gin drinker/expert but it appears that this is a botanical gin. I would use what you have.

Hi there, I’ve not tried to make it yet. It it’s got five stars because it sounds fab!
What I need to know is, does it need a plain gin, or a botanical gin?

Yes ginger is great, I add it to my Rhubarb Jam but don’t think I’d want it in strawberry jam. I do mention rum in my text as an alternative to the gin, so many variations one could do. I don’t drink gin (or spirits in general) myself but had some samples of gin which needed using up. The other sample went into my Rhubarb & Gin Jam which also sent the flavours to a new incredible dynamic:-)

For a moment I thought gin meant ginger for short as I love adding ginger to most of my jams! Star of Bombay Gin sounds great to add to the jam (never tried it myself yet) though Spiced Rum could give a nice flavour too! I’ve added Mandalay Rum that I got from Myanmar to my Fig and Orange Marmalade and it’s so very delicious with the rum added to it.
