In reply to Camilla. We did straight cookery, I didn't do it to exam level so had to stop at end of my 3rd year of high school. But we learned to book both savoury and sweet dishes from scratch. Stews, pizza including the dough, fruit pies and crumbles and so on! Very useful.

My kids have done cooking at school but it's nothing like the Food & Nutrition GCSE or Home Economics A Level I did where we learned about the science of cooking and nutrition which I think is vital and a life skill everyone should be equipped with in order to have a healthy diet.

Love that your Home Ecs teacher had a leader board – we never did anything like that at our school but I am grateful we still had proper cookery classes – these days, if they have anything at all it’s “designing” a new sandwich with more time spent on mocking up the packaging and marketing materials!

I love your jams Camilla. I swear by your one punnet strawberry jam and use it as a guide for making other jams.
Taking inspiration from your plum and apple jam, I made a plum and orange jam. Wow, it was great and made me realise oranges are not just for marmalade.
I have your gooseberry and apple jam in the back of my mind for later in the year. The PYO field always has tons of goos-gogs that go begging. I think we should re-invent the goos-gog. xx
