Win 3 Kitchen Gadgets from Tesco Direct rrp £55.49 – Closed

Updated: 7th May 2024 · Published: 30th May 2014

Tesco Direct, kitchen gadgets, money saving, labour saving

When the lovely people at Tesco Direct asked if I’d like to  review and run a competition with my choice of small kitchen appliances there was no holding me back!

First I chose the Tricity TFSSHB12 Hand Blender which retails at £9.50 and even comes with a jug. For the money I think this is an absolute steal as it whizzed up my soup perfectly and even has a pretty blue led around the power button. There are 2 speed settings but I didn’t actually notice any difference between them. The jug is useful for blending smoothies and milkshakes. My only negative is that it is quite heavy but you can rest the blender on the bottom of your pan and tilt to blend your soup etc. I do think a stainless steel hand blender is a kitchen essential as you don’t have to wait for your hot soup etc to cool down before blending. With this device in your cupboard you need never buy ready made soup again!

The next item I chose was the James Martin Grinder ZX595 by Wahl which retails at £18 as I’ve never owned such a gadget of a pestal and mortar! This grinder can be used not only for spices and coffee but I used it to make my own ground rice and oatmeal. So I think this is a cool gadget for saving you money too as you can stretch your kitchen staples even further! Its only drawback was that it wasn’t that easy to get the lid off so wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with arthritis etc.

Tesco Direct, kitchen gadgets, money saving, labour saving

The last item I chose was the Eddingtons Mincer Pro which retails at £27.99. I have been looking for a suitable mincer for ages and I have to say I love this one. There’s no clamping it to the worktop like some mincers, just a turn of a small lever activates a suction cup in the base to adhere to your work surface. I tested out the mincer with some fresh frying steak to make burgers which worked a treat and I even passed the onion through the mincer too! It’s nice to know what’s in your mince or burgers. My main plan for this mincer though is for using up leftover roasted meat to make up things like rissoles, pies and pasties etc. There’s even a sausage making attachment for the more adventurous!

So if you’d like to win these useful labour and money saving gadgets just tell me what you would make first using one or all three of these gadgets? Don’t forget you must answer the question or your entry will be void.

I’d make our favourite thai noodle salad (using the mini grinder for the garlic, ginger and chilli as I hate doing these by hand) with chicken cakes (using the mincer on the chicken breasts). It is a delicious meal and goes down really well with family and guests but it is a faff to prepare and these gadgets would def speed it up.

I would make Italian pork burgers with apple puree, using all the shiny bits of kit!! Firstly I would poach some gala apples until tender, blitz them with Mr Sticky, and set them aside to cool. Meanwhile I would grind up some fennel seeds and a pinch of cumin in the grindy-beast, and add to a bowl of chopped shoulder of pork, red onion and garlic cloves, and mix through. Finally I would pass the mix through Master Mincemaker on a fairly course grind, divide into man-size portions, and lightly shape into patties. They I would pan fry them in a little olive oil and serve with lots of rocket in ciabatta bread, with a nice dollop of apple sauce.

I have a really great donner kebab recipe. I usually use lamb mince I have bought from Tesco, but I would love to try making it with some better quality lamb, to see how it tastes. For this, I would end up using both the mincer, for the lamb, and the grinder, for the required spices. Also, i’m really interested to find out if the grinder is able to cope with the ‘fresh’ oregano I buy, as it tends to be a little ‘sticky/twiggy’.

I would use the mincer to make home made burgers, I rarely eat burgers because I don’t like most mince that’s availabe to make my own and I don’t like pre-made burgers as I can never be sure of what exactly is in it so this would be perfect.
