Oxo Good Grips Competition – Closed

Updated: 7th May 2024 · Published: 17th December 2013

Oxo Good Grips Chef's Mandoline, Spice Spoons, Digital Thermometer

We’re coming to the end of the year and by January we will all be feeling the effects of Christmas on our wallets or purses. With this in mind I thought it would be a good idea to run a competition to win some prizes that could save you some money and possibly open some new doors for you too. So one of my favourite brands, Oxo, gave me free reign to choose the following fabulous prizes!

Review, Competition

First I picked the Oxo Good Grips Chef’s Mandolin Slicer (rrp £60) which after road testing I can say is a doddle to use. I’ve never had a food processor which chops or slices so having this mandolin is a real bonus and doesn’t cost anything to run. I sliced salad vegetables and cabbage for coleslaw with great ease. After a quick turn of the dial I was making julienne of carrots which only take a few minutes to steam, thus saving energy. You can make you own French Fries (another saving) and there’s also a crinkle and waffle cutting mode for jazzing up your potatoes etc. The biggest joy for me was seeing my daughter eat slim slithers of tomato and green pepper in her salad as these are things she doesn’t usually eat. It’s amazing what a change of size and shape will do for the appetite! Taking the mandolin apart for cleaning is easy and although I saw dishwasher proof mentioned for the plastic parts, I think it’s no effort to plunge the whole lot in the sink for a quick wash. I was concerned about storage, but I needn’t have worried as the food holder clips neatly underneath and the legs fold away so it’s compact and easy to store. I don’t know how I’ve managed all these years without a mandolin!

Review, Competition

Next I chose the Oxo Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer (rrp £15.50) which comes with a handy case which tells you the correct temperature for your meat and poultry. Again I’ve never owned one of these and I can’t tell you the number of recipes which haven’t been made because of this. Not only is it brilliant for telling if your meat is cooked but you can also use it for making sweets, marshmallows, fudge, jam etc.

I recently attempted to make fudge for the first time and I have to say it was a failure as I didn’t judge the stage where you can roll a ball of mixture between your fingers well enough. A thermometer would have saved me and the cost of my ingredients! (There’s only so much wet fudge you can or want to eat:-) So if you win this prize you can save money by not overcooking or undercooking your roasts and be thrifty by making your own edible gifts!

Review, CompetitionFinally I just had to choose the Oxo Good Grips Spice Jar Measuring Spoons (rrp £12) because who ever invented these was a genius. The number of times I’ve spilled expensive spices over the worktop when I’ve had to shake them out, I can’t tell you. Then there are those annoying new tall Baking Powder and Bicarbonate of Soda containers that an ordinary measuring spoon won’t reach down into once they’re half used. Well these are problems of the past now the Spice Jar Measuring Spoons have come to the rescue saving you your money and your sanity – no more wasted ingredients on the worktop – yippee!

I hope you like my choice of products for saving you money in the new year. To enter the competition just let me know via the Rafflecopter below which of these products you like the best and why.

Spice Jar Measuring Spoons – because all spoons in one place, easy to clean after use. I end up trying to hunt for a spoon that’s normally in the dish washer and I normally have dirty hands, makes me feel disorganised. These spoons would make me feel very organised and professional!

I’d LOVE the Oxo Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer because I don’t already have one but have wanted a cooking thermometer for ages and this looks like a good one: quick and easy to read and multi functional for use both in roasting and sweet making. We love our beef rare-med, and I’ve bought some new books for making sweets at home but forgot about the thermometer again and I don’t like guessing at the ready stage – would much rather have successfull results by using a thermometer. Fingers crossed!
