Small Scale Christmas Dinner

At this time of year it’s expected that most of us will have a turkey dinner at Christmas or Thanksgiving.

However, not everyone needs or can consume an entire turkey in their household.  Some people have vegetarians in their family and others just need to cater for one or two.  With this in mind, I decided to make Stuffed Turkey Breast Steaks in Blankets for a small scale Christmas dinner.

This turkey dinner serves 2 but you can scale it up to however many servings you need.

You could almost call this an emergency Christmas turkey dinner!

Sometimes plans change at the last minute so turkey, pigs in blankets and sausage meat stuffing can be hard to come by at the last minute. These Turkey Steaks in Blankets are like having your Christmas turkey and all the trimmings rolled into one!

Can you prepare the turkey steaks in advance?

Stuffed Turkey Breast Steaks in Blankets are easy to make and prep in advance. You could assemble them in the morning and then cover and leave in the fridge until needed.

Where can you buy turkey breast steaks?

I buy mine in Morrisons.

I fully intend to try this recipe. Will it be possible to do all the preparation then freeze the roll ups?

As long as all your ingredients haven’t previously been frozen then there’s no reason why you couldn’t do that. A very good idea, you’d probably need to allow 24 hrs in the fridge to thaw as overnight probably not long enough.

Now that our Christmas has been cancelled, I’ve got to come up with something vaguely festive to eat on the day. We have no Christmas food in the house, so scratching my head a bit.

Hi Camilla. I’m hoping you can help because my oven has broken and I’m panicing right before Christmas! Could this recipe be adapted to pan fry the turkey steaks rather than put them in a roasting tin in the oven? If so, how long would I need to pan fry them for? Thanks!

Hi I’ve never pan fried this but if you did want to I think a meat thermometer would be your best bet to check that it was cooked through.

Camilla – what a delicious way to enjoy Turkey over Christmas. I like the stuffing you have used in the bird – I’m sure it adds lots of moisture and prevents it from drying out (which is often the case I find with turkey).
A beautifully presented Christmas dish 🙂
