Brabantia Pink Santini Ironing Table & Portable Laundry Bag Review + Giveaway rrp £120 – Closed

Updated: 10th May 2024 · Published: 17th May 2013

Brabantia, laundry, ironing, storage

When I was recently asked what I would like to review for Brabantia I immediately knew and suggested their new Portable Laundry Bag and an ironing table cover; they went one better though and offered me a their new Pink Santini Ironing Table!

Having owned a Brabantia ironing board for the last 20 years I was extremely impressed that it was only in the last 6 months that the cover started to fray and before you ask yes I do use it and there are four of us to iron for!

Brabantia Ironing Table in room

So what are the positives of the Brabantia Pink Santini Ironing Table?

  • Well this ironing table is extra wide unlike my old one and is therefore marvellous for ironing large items and significantly speeds up the process. Stopping to re-arrange your ironing every few sweeps really is time consuming! So I’d say this ironing table is ideal for a family’s bulk ironing.
  •  There is a transport lock which keeps the board folded shut for safety when not in use which my old board did not have.
  •  The height is adjustable to 4 settings – 77 – 96cm so should cater for most people’s needs.
  • The cover is 100% cotton with a resilient foam/viscose underlay so no risk of static.
  •  The platform for the iron can hold up to 7kg so if you have a steam unit it’s ideal, I just have a normal steam iron but prefer a solid base to work with but the Pink Santini comes in a version with a steam iron holder with a hole in it too.
  • Best of all the ironing table comes with a 10 year guarantee but if my last one is anything to go by it should last an awful lot longer!

Were there any negatives?

  • I would say this ironing table is not be suitable for the elderly or anyone with back problems as it is heavier than a standard sized one.
  • Personally I like to sit while I’m ironing and this table didn’t go quite as low as my old table (about 1” difference) but I’m probably on my own on that one! STOP PRESS: since writing this post, with a change of chair to a firm one I can iron comfortably sitting down so I’m happy again:-)

Brabantia Laundry Bag Montage

So what are the positives of the Brabantia Portable Laundry Bag?

  • It comes in five colours to fit in with your home: Lipstick Red, Caribbean Blue, Pansy Purple, Lemon Yellow and Grey.
  • A large capacity of 50 litres.
  • Is easy to load up with washing through the wide magnetic hoops which fold over each other to form the opening.
  • Once the bag is full just unfold the hoops and you have a carrying handle to transport your washing to the washing machine.
  • The bag is so stylish that I would also use it in place of an ironing basket as it doesn’t make your room look like a Chinese laundry.
  • The laundry bag is made of a woven man made material which feels really robust so shouldn’t rip or tear with normal use.
  • The bag is supported by 2 wooden dowels inside so unlike my previous pop up style laundry bags this should last a lot longer as the wires always end up poking through and having to be binned!
  • There is a 2 year guarantee but again I’m sure it will last longer.

What were the negatives:

  • The only thing that irked me were the smiling models walking around with the Portable Laundry Bag on their shoulders. I tried this in the line of duty and believe me, you wouldn’t want to do that with any laundry in it as the wires are very unforgiving on your shoulder bone and I quickly removed it before doing any damage. I’ll put this down to a photographer who didn’t like the look of the models holding the bag but that really is the only way you would transport it!

So now I’ve told you what I think, how would you like to win your own Brabantia Pink Santini Ironing Table and Portable Laundry Bag? My laundry tip is to always add a little fabric softener. It does wonders for a fresh smell after washing. In order to find a smell that I like best, I open the bottles in the store and sniff to see if I’m ok with the smell before I buy it.

Don’t use the amounts they say on the washing powder package. You can use half of that. A washing machine repair man told me this years ago. The amounts they talk about clog up the machine

Do it regularly so it doesn’t pile up and become a huge amount thats hard to get on top of. As soon as theres enough for a load, get it on, then on the line asap, and folded/ironed. It save a lot of hassle of have masses of washing that seems never ending.
Also, shake things out once out of the washer, and hang as straight as possible on the line/airer or whatever, and straighten things up once hanging. Fold neatly and put away, and if using a tumble, fold while still warm, and it helps things stay pretty straight. Its saved me having to do too much ironing, especially when I’m going through a bad time health wise, and makes a big difference.

Oh I am in dire need of a new ironing board as my one flexes constantly making it near unusable. My tip is taking the washing out straight away then shake the creases out carefully before hanging carefully.

When washing towels add a quarter cup of white vinegar to the rinse instead of conditioner. After a few washes using this method it helps to get rid of the build up of products on your towels and leaves them soft.

When we had a problem with our washing machine the engineer informed me that cool washes are great for the environment but not so good for your machine as you get a build up of gunk so it’s best to do a weekly hot wash maybe towels or sheets, the occasional empty wash and also leave the door open when the machine is empty

If washing trainers or netted clothing or clothes with gems on that you are scared will get ruined, put them inside a pillow case and tie the pillow case with a hair bobble. The pillow case will protect the items getting caught or ripped/damaged by the washing machine. The hair bobble tied around the pillow case will stop the items falling out.

My daughters and their families often drop in for one night stop overs when they are visiting us or friends who still live near us. That’s lovely but it’s a lot of bedding to wash and iron. My tip is to buy sets of sheets and duvet covers that require minimum ironing to look spruce. My treat of Egyptian cotton is a nightmare to smooth.

I actually enjoy all other ironing such as shirts and blouses because I can watch TV but still feel busy 🙂

my tip is to keep to hand whilst ironing, a squirty bottle filled with lightly fragranced water – a few drops of fabric conditioner works well. This is better for moistening stubborn creases and removing them, far better than steam function on the iron alone.

My best laundry tip is not to have your washing machine on the fastest spin it will go at, the clothes will only end up very creased, set it on the lowest spin setting, your clothes may take longer to dry but the clothes will be much easier to iron, if they need to be ironed at all. I still spin towels and other items that don’t need ironing on the fastest spin setting though.

Tip 1 – Do it yourself, asking your husband to do it just results in the job getting done either hours/days later or just not done to your standard.

Tip 2 – Take the washing out of the machine as soon as its finished and shake the clothes well and rub them down to knock out the creases…. rubbing them down kinda sound rude but you know what i mean, i hope 😉

Tip 3 – Put socks into a sock bag/laundery type bag for washing otherwise the ‘void’ WILL swallow those socks up. A gang of socks together have a much better chance at seeing the light of day again (safety in numbers) – those single, random socks literally stand no chance and will forever be lost….. poor socks 🙁

I buy the same black socks in bulk so matching them will be very easy. If there is a hole in the sock I will always have a match. I buy one style of black socks for me and one style for my hubby. Matching has never been so easy.

My tip is to put your damp shirts and tops on hangers to dry (if you’re drying indoors open the window and hang them on the curtain rail). They’ll dry quite crease free and you can just pop anything that doesn’t need ironed straight into the wardrobe.

my laundry tip is to save those small bits of soap you have left from bars of soap and put them in a net (anything like a piece of net curtain, even onion net bag etc) and then dunk them in hot water and then rub along the collar of shirts just before you pop them in the washing machine – it uses up the old soap and gets rid of those dirty collars.

My best tip relates to the iron itself – mine started leaking mystery brown/grey liquid (most likely because of limescale build up). To clean it I mixed white vinegar with water at a 1:2 ratio and filled the iron. Then put the iron on up to its hottest temperature. If the stain is in the steam holes or spray area, use the buttons on your iron to spray water or steam. Turn the iron off and leave for an hour. Empty all of the water/vinegar mixture. Repeat the process using just water until the vinegar smell is gone (I had to do this twice).

If the hotplate gets dirty in the process just use a damp cloth with some washing up liquid to wipe down – make sure the iron is cool and off when you do this!

I would recommend doing this with the window open unless you particularly like the smell of vinegar!!

use filtered water in your iron if like me you live in a hard water area, otherwise all that limescale can cause havoc with your iron and create a spluttering disaster just as you are ironing a white shirt.

I forgot to leave my laundry tip! As a fairly undomesticated cheapskate, my only tip is to avoid using as much detergent as the bottle/box recommends. It’s almost always far more than you actually need, unless your clothing is actually stained and not just a bit smelly, and you’re only wasting your money. That’s why I avoid the pre-measured solutions like liquitabs or power tablets. My “30 washes” bottles last at least 50 in my household.
