Super Foods for Super Kids!
Baking with your children is a great activity for many reasons – learning, development, positive food association, and fun – to name a few. However time is limited, attention spans are short, and recipes can be long. To make the process easier, Sweetpea Pantry has launched five super food bake-at-home mixes. Their aim is to add goodness into your home baking by using nutritious ingredients that may not be a pantry staple and make it simple to bake something delicious.
Sweetpea Pantry’s baking mixes make both savoury and sweet snacks or meals including biscuits, flapjack, pizza, and pancakes. Packed with super wholesome and whole-grain ingredients, like wholemeal flour, flaxseeds, oats, quinoa, teff, barley, and rye flour, and with no white processed sugars or flours, these all-natural boxes aim to make it easier for those occasions you may not have the time, energy or inclination to start from scratch. All dry ingredients are included, you just need to add the wet eg butter and eggs – each recipe varies.
Sweetpea Pantry was started by two mums who were frustrated with the lack of easy nutritionally beneficial baking mixes out there that produced food that was easy and tasted home-made – and didn’t have sugar as the number one ingredient!
Recently listed with Ocado (special launch price in April) – they are now easy to add to your online grocery shopping or available at sweetpeapantry.co.uk (along with some must-have tools and accessories for the budding baker!)
This week my daughter and I had a fun afternoon making the Ginger Giggles together. She’d just bought me a fabulous “Home Made” cookie stamper so couldn’t wait to get it into use. The biscuits were well within my 10-year-old’s capability as the skills involved were whisking egg whites until frothy and melting syrup and butter in a pan. For younger children, you would just help out a little more. Mixing the dough up was easy and then came the fun bit of rolling out, cutting, and stamping – we made 30 biscuits in all. I really liked this kit as not only did it use healthy high-fibre ingredients (wholemeal, barley, and rye flour) but there were no artificial ingredients or additives. Best of all though the Ginger Giggles tasted really good and you’d never think they’d come from a packet mix. The kids have enjoyed having them with their packed lunches this week and I feel less guilty giving them a healthy treat!

Ginger Giggles – nutritious and delicious! What more could you want in a biscuit?
