SPAM and Gruyère Salad with Garlic Croutons - Fab Food 4 All

Many people associate SPAM Chopped Pork and Ham with their school days when it was always served deep fryed and coated in batter. Well times have moved on and there are a whole host of more exciting ways to use this useful store cupboard staple. One such way is in this delicious SPAM Salad with Garlic Croutons and Gruyère! Romaine lettuce is tossed in a garlicky french dressing to which fried Spam and garlic croutons are added and then topped with grated Gruyère cheese.

SPAM and Gruyère Salad with Garlic Croutons - Fab Food 4 All

I made this salad for mine and hubby’s lunch and then kept the rest in the fridge for the children’s dinner. There were clean plates all round I’m happy to say as everyone loved this dish. I think this salad would even be great for a packed lunch and is really easy to eat with just a fork!

Honestly, I have never even tried Spam. I have recently been thinking I need to buckle down and try it. I often see them takling on The Food Network about how much of a culinary staple Spam is in Hawaii. I feel like I’d like it so I don’t know what has stopped me. You might have inspired me w/ this recipe 🙂

Gosh deep fried and coated in batter? I might have liked it more if I’d had it like that at school. I didn’t now it was still in existence.

I absolutely love SPAM fritters. They were one of my favourite school dinners. You’ve brought it right up to date in this recipe and I also love their new convenient tub packaging.

EEK! I’ll admit I am a little scared of spam…I had an unpleasant experience of it when I was a child. This recipe however looks like it could tempt me to try it again! (Much better than spam fritters!)
