February’s Credit Crunch Munch + Mermaid Prize

Credit Crunch Munch

This month it is my turn to host Credit Crunch Munch which is a joint challenge being run myself and the lovely Helen at Fuss Free Flavours.

As usual you have free reign over what types of dishes you would like to submit but I noticed last month that there was not a single pudding or dessert entered so I would be very happy to see some of these this month! I also have a husband who every night says “what’s for pudding” so this is purely a selfish request! With this in mind, I have organised a prize for one lucky entrant, which is a Pudding Sleeve from the lovely people at Mermaid!

We want to know how you enjoy great food, but still spend less or save some money. Think about…

  • Dishes using cheaper ingredients – cheap cuts of meat or vegetarian
  • Meals using leftovers
  • Meals using up the ends of packets
  • Substitutions of cheaper ingredients
  • Packed lunches
  • Meals that use less energy to cook
  • Pressure cooking
  • Slow cooking
  • Faster cooking – less oven time for example
  • Batch cooking for the freezer
  • Sustainable foods
  • Food you have grown yourself
  • Meals from reduced food in the supermarket

Have just submitted my quesadillas – not a pudding i’m afraid but very cheap and cheerful 😉 You could actually put chocolate spread and chopped bananas in to make it a pudding… but maybe that’s a new blog post!

Ah . . . just realised you would have preferred puddings. And I have a savoury dish. Ooops! (With a bit of imagination, think of it as a pasta pudding!)

Hi Camilla, thanks for hosting, looks like it will be another popular round. My recipe can be batch cooked and uses seasonal (cheaper) veg. Ren x

I have a feeling I don’t know what pudding is….. (not British here and none of my puddings need a sleeve, just a bowl)… so I submitted something else. 🙂

Pudding just means the same as dessert or can be a steamed pudding and the sleeve is a new invention for making a specific suet based Roly Poly Steamed Pudding or Spotted Dick:-) Any money saving dish can be entered into Credit Crunch Munch so if you have a dessert do feel free to enter that too!

Challenge accepted! I suppose I could have added my apple crumble but I didn’t think of it at the time. The Tea Time Treats challenge for Feb is puddings (I think, better double check) so you might end up with a few suggestions to keep the hubby happy.
